MM539 - HSE Advisor Location - Bournemouth Salary - Competeim Overview First Military Recruitment is working in partnership with our cline tot recruit an HSE Advisor to join their team in Bournemouth.  The activity here is largely aircraft maintenance but it is also one of our main receipt and dispatch locations for one of our air ambulance contracts. Thus, the people that work here are predominantly engineers, pilots, logistics/stores, ground handling and office staff. As the site HSE Advisor, this role is the key focal point for all HSE related activity, including that of providing competent HSE advice to the workforce. Day to day activity includes: the induction and contractor management process (including issuing permits to work), risk assessment, safety briefs/toolbox talks, occurrence management (processing safety reports), helping to resolve safety issues, conducting safety inspections/audits, safety walks, COSHH assessments and other HSE related tasks that arise. This role is also rostered to visit other sites once or twice per month, primarily to conduct HSE audits and provide competent advice. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Identifying hazards within the workplace and assisting the Safety Team to ensure that the Company is compliant with relevant Health and Safety legislation Working with managers on the practical application of the Health and Safety policy Assisting managers with Risk Assessments and developing Safe Systems of Work with managers to ensure appropriate risk mitigation is implemented Carrying out Health and Safety inspections of the company’s premises and activities Assisting the HSE Manager with the organisation and delivery of internal and external Health and Safety training courses Assisting the HSE Manager with ordering and allocating the type and use of PPE Carrying out such associated Health and Safety duties which may arise, develop or be assigned by the HSE Manager Reporting to the HSE Manager on environmental management including any opportunities for improvement Environmental incident investigation, and management and maintaining the Environmental Incident Log Ensuring delivery of HSE Inductions for new starters Ensuring that environmental records (e.g. waste transfer notes; trade effluent discharges) are retained for each of the office locations in accordance with the Waste Control (Duty of Care) Procedure Ensuring compliance with current environmental legislation as identified in the Legal Register Who are we looking for? The incumbent must be a qualified (minimum IOSH/NEBOSH General Certificate), competent and experienced (preferably in aviation or engineering) HSE professional. As the on-site safety focal point, they must be able to work autonomously (albeit with line management support at the end of a phone). They must be willing and able to travel to other sites (i.e. have a driving licence, preferably clean). The incumbent must also either already hold or be capable of holding a government security clearance, as they will not be permitted access to certain areas without one. The incumbent will need excellent written and oral communication skills, to be able to work effectively within a highly trained and professional workforce. Similarly, they should be proficient in the use of IT, particularly Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook, with the ability to quickly learn and use databases. In terms of being a right fit for the role, we need someone that is prepared to help find solutions and be the friendly face of safety in the workplace. HSE advisors that want to walk around with a clip board telling people off should not apply!
